Chinmay Jani Presented the Findings at the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting – Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center
Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In Case You Missed It: Earlier this year, the former U.S. Surgeon General warned of strong links between alcohol use and cancer risk.
Sylvester researchers analyzed national data and found that alcohol-related cancer deaths in the U.S. nearly doubled from 1990 to 2021-rising from under 12,000 to over 23,000 annually. The increase is largely driven by men aged 20-54, while rates in women declined slightly.
Dr. Chinmay Jani presented the findings at the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting, where the abstract earned the ASCO Merit Award. Senior author Dr. Gilberto Lopes calls for greater awareness and more in-depth research into alcohol’s role in cancer development.
