Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo: Rays of Hope for Childhood Cancer – Delivering Life-Saving Care Where It’s Needed Most
Carlos Rodriguez-Galindo, EVP and Chair, Department of Global Pediatric Medicine at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, we believe that where a child is born should never determine their chance of surviving cancer.
That’s why I’m proud to share that we’ve launched a new partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to tackle one of the most persistent and devastating inequities in pediatric cancer care: limited access to radiotherapy in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
With a financial and technical investment from St. Jude over the next three years, this collaboration will:
- Expand access to pediatric radiotherapy and diagnostic imaging – both critical for treating childhood cancers
- Build national capacity by training radiation oncologists, physicists, and technicians
- Develop Global Goods – technical resources, curricula, and guidance to improve care delivery
- Strengthen national cancer control programs and health systems through the imPACT Review assessment tool
This effort marks the launch of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s Rays of Hope for Childhood Cancer, building on the Agency’s broader Rays of Hope initiative to deliver life-saving care where it’s needed most.
Too many children in LMICs still face delays in diagnosis or go without appropriate treatment altogether. This partnership is a step forward in changing that reality. I’m honored to work alongside the IAEA to help bring equitable, high-quality care to children across the globe.
Together, we’re working toward a world where survival is a reality, not a privilege.”
