In Memoriam of Bonnie J. Addario։ A Legacy of Hope, Advocacy, and Change in Lung Cancer
GO2 for Lung Cancer shared a post on LinkedIn:
“With heavy hearts, we share the passing of our beloved co-founder and leader of GO2 for Lung Cancer, founder of the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, and founder of Addario Lung Cancer Medical Institute, Bonnie J. Addario.
Bonnie was an extraordinary woman whose vision, strength, and generosity transformed the lung cancer space forever. Following her own diagnosis, she turned adversity into action—channeling her experience into a movement that put patients first. From patient to powerhouse, Bonnie became a fierce and tireless advocate, giving voice and hope to countless individuals and families impacted by lung cancer.
She united survivors, caregivers, health care providers, researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers to confront this disease with compassion, innovation, and urgency.
While her loss is deeply felt, Bonnie’s legacy lives on—in the lives she touched, the progress she inspired, and the unwavering belief she held: that every person affected by lung cancer matters.
We honor her by continuing the mission she so passionately led—with courage, love, and hope.”
Amy C Moore, Director of Patient Engagement and Advocacy at Summit Therapeutics, shared this post, adding:
“With the passing of Bonnie Addario, the lung cancer community has lost a huge champion who inspired me and countless others with her passion and commitment. She was the living embodiment of HOPE.
I first came to know Bonnie when I joined her namesake foundation, The Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation (now known as GO2 for Lung Cancer) back in 2018 after my family pulled up roots from GA and moved to CA. At the time, I felt unmoored, but Bonnie and her family (Tony Addario, Danielle Hicks and Andrea Parks) embraced me and my family and gave me a home away from home and a new sense of purpose: advocating on behalf of those at risk for and living with lung cancer.
Bonnie was indeed a force to reckon with, deeply committed to her work but always embracing joy. She knew she was one of the lucky ones and she didn’t squander the opportunity to have fun. The office when I first joined was always filled with laughter, friends, family, kids, dogs, food and of course, a fair amount of wine. It was CA after all.
I am grateful for the many lessons she taught me, the doors she opened, the trails she blazed. We are all better for her vision, her leadership and her unrelenting commitment to making things better for all those who came after her.
Her legacy endures. Well done, Bonnie.”
