Blood Cancer Awareness Month: International Myeloma Foundation on the Latest Developments

With September being Blood Cancer Awareness Month, it’s vital to look at the organizations that are dedicated to the various forms of this disease. The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) is the largest organization focused solely on multiple myeloma, a rare and incurable blood cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow.

With over 525,000 members across 140 countries, the IMF supports patients and caregivers through education, advocacy, research, and events like the annual Iceland Cycling Expedition.

Dr. Joseph Mikhael, Chief Medical Officer, is available for interviews on the IMF’s work and what lies ahead in the fight against myeloma. Dr. Mikhael leads the IMF’s M-Power Project, which seeks to improve the care delivered to African Americans, who have double the incidence of white people. He spends about 20% of his time in the developing world, seeking ways to enhance access to myeloma therapies in underprivileged countries.

Potential interview topics include:

  • Iceland Cycling Expedition 2025: How the recently concluded event brought global visibility to myeloma through a scenic bike tour with doctors and patients participating
  • New Technologies: Myelo is the IMF’s AI-powered chatbot built to support and inform individuals living with multiple myeloma.
  • Closing the Care Gap: How the IMF’s M-Power Project is working to improve myeloma outcomes in underserved communities
  • Global Research Initiatives: The IMF’s role in advancing treatment innovation through programs like the Black Swan Research Initiative, which funds cure trials in the U.S. and abroad

When can we set up a conversation with Dr. Mikhael?
