Sampson Chinonso Ipiankama: Proud to Share Our ASCO 2025 Abstract from Nigeria’s First National Study on Psycho-Oncology
Sampson Chinonso Ipiankama, Grant, Sustainability, and Research Lead at Project PINK BLUE, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting starts today, and I’m really proud to share that our abstract from Nigeria’s first national study on psycho-oncology has been published on the ASCO website as part of the meeting’s official abstracts.
Our study is titled: “Estimating the Access to Psychotherapy and Psychological Support for Cancer Patients in Nigeria: A National Study.”
Our study goes beyond data, it gives voice to the silent struggles of thousands of cancer patients across Nigeria who face emotional and psychological battles alongside their physical illness. Far too many are diagnosed and left to navigate their pain alone, without access to trained clinical psychologists or structured mental health support.
We hope this work serves as a call to action: to the government, policymakers, cancer centers, funders, and advocates. We must prioritize mental health in cancer care. Every patient deserves not just to survive, but to heal wholly, body and mind.
I’m grateful to the co-authors and everyone who contributed to this work.”
Runcie Chidebe, Executive Director of Project PINK BLUE, shared this post on LinkedIn, adding:
“Super excited to be Co-leading this national efforts focused on estimating the access to psychotherapy and psychological support for cancer patients in Nigeria. Special thanks to American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).”
