“A new analysis of the UK lung screening trials has been published, and it shows that those at high risk of lung cancer from all socioeconomic groups can benefit from participating in screening.
The study, conducted by researchers at the University of Liverpool and Queen Mary University of London, reveals that screening improves lung cancer outcomes and reduces deaths from COPD and emphysema, especially in economically deprived areas.
Lead author and Network member Professor John Field said that these findings emphasise the importance of offering lung health checks to all high-risk populations, and securing their attendance at screening, to address health inequalities.
