Alisher Kahharov: Summary of the First International Congress of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology

“Summary of the First International Congress of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology.

‘Evidence to Action’ 5-7 June 2024, Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

We are excited to share the successes and key highlights of our recent congress, which brought together over 900 representatives from the professional community, as well as international and domestic non-governmental organizations. Leading experts in pediatric oncology, hematology, clinical immunology, and pediatric palliative care participated, ensuring high-level discussions and exchange of experiences.

Special thanks to ESO European School of Oncology, International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP, SIOP Asia 2023 Community, World Health Organization (WHO), World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Uzbekistan, World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Uzbekistan for support.

The congress served as a crucial platform for strengthening international cooperation and developing new strategies to combat pediatric oncological diseases. Delegates from the USA, Germany, the UK, Israel, India, Austria, Denmark, Egypt, Slovenia, the UAE, Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan were present at the event.

Key highlights of the congress include:

 1. Participation of WHO and international organizations: Presentations by representatives from WHO, SIOP, ESO, and other leading international professionals.

2. Signing of Memorandums of Understanding:

Princess Maxima Center (Netherlands).

Medical University of Vienna (Austria).

Gaziosmanpasha University Clinic (Turkey).

Kanka University Clinic (Turkey).

 3. Primary Areas of Collaboration:

 – Training and retraining of specialists.

– Development and implementation of therapeutic protocols (surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy).

– Support in establishing a scientific research centre.

– Collaboration in molecular and genomic diagnostics.

– Discussion of clinical cases using telemedicine.

4. Programmatic Part:

Included 19 sections, 2 workshops, 1 round table, and 1 seminar. Participants also visited the Children’s Hematology, Oncology, and Clinical Immunology Center, the National Children’s Medical Center, and the Taskin Children’s Hospice.

5. Agreements and Partnerships:

Agreement to develop standard procedures for infection control with the Dmitry Rogachev National Research Center of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Immunology under the WHO initiative on childhood cancer.

 The congress was an important milestone in international cooperation and advancements in pediatric oncology, hematology, clinical immunology, and pediatric palliative care.
