Ishwaria Subbiah: Nearly 1 in 3 physicians with the HIGHEST possible resilience score still had burnout!

Ishwaria Subbiah, the Executive Director of Cancer Care Equity and Professional Wellness at Sarah Cannon Research Institute, shared the following on Twitter:

“Physician burnout is NOT from a resiliency deficit. Nearly 1 in 3 physicians with the HIGHEST possible resilience score still had burnout!

“Here’s more from West et al study:
The questions: How resilient are physicians compared with US workers, and what is the association between resilience and burnout among physicians?
Analysis compared 5,445 US MDs and 5,198 working adults in general US pop
Results: Physicians had significantly higher resilience scores than the general employed population!
Higher resilience a/w less burnout: Each one-point increase in resilience score was a/w 36% lower odds of overall burnout… BUT
392 of 1350 (29%) with the HIGHEST possible resilience score of 8 still had burnout symptoms!”
