Michelle Ann Eala: Our published survey on Radiotherapy resources in the Philippines
Michelle Ann Eala,
“Radiotherapy uses very strong x-rays to cause DNA damage to cancer cells and is critical to the cure and palliation of many cancers.
In our published survey, we found:
1) There is <1 RT facility per 1M Filipinos
2) <30% of RT facilities are SRS/SBRT-capable (this is a type of very focused radiation that treats brain, spine, lung, pancreatic, and prostate cancer)
3) <50% of RT facilities offer HDR brachytherapy (this is a type of internal radiation that treats cervical, uterine, and prostate cancer)
Lots of work to do! Looking to partner with individuals and organizations interested in expanding radiotherapy access in the Philippines.
Full study here.”
