Eric Lim: Extended pleurectomy decortication for mesothelioma resulted in shorter survival
Eric Lim, Consultant Thoracic Surgeon at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, shared on X:
“MARS 2 – more than 7 years of work, 26 hospitals, expert mesothelioma centers and surgeons in the UK with over 264 patient deaths just published (online first), open access, free to all to read.
Phenomenal amount of work and sacrifices to inform the world that extended pleurectomy decortication for mesothelioma resulted in shorter survival, more deaths, more serious complications, poorer quality of life, and higher costs than chemotherapy alone.
Please also read the discussions in the paper that used actual RCT data to address (refute) many of the criticisms asserted by the accompanying editorial.”
