Tanja Obradovic: Battle with breast cancer is raging
Tanja Obradovic, Vice President of Oncology Scientific Affairs at
“Battle with breast cancer is raging. Just published epidemiological study of Canadian population shows worrying trend of incidence rising especially in young women in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Very detailed study reviewed breast cancer cases over 35 years and among many findings it is especially devastating to see by far highest incidence increase in very young women in 20s by over 45%. For women in their 20s, there were 3.9 cases per 100,000 people between 1984 and 1988, compared to 5.7 cases per 100,000 between 2015 and 2019.
This report from Canada mirrors reports from other geographies and considering that in younger women breast cancer tends to be diagnosed at later stages and is often more aggressive due to inadequate screening, it is a huge medical need that puts emphasis on developing better treatment options for the advanced disease.”
