Avanish Saklani: Our opinion in Colorectal Disease is worth a read
Avanish Saklani, Professor at TATA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL shared a post on LinkedIn:
“The growing burden of colorectal cancer in developing countries present a challenge. With young onset rectal cancers and an incidence not cost effective to have national screening programme compounded by lack of uniform primary health care result in delayed diagnosis ie locally advanced rectal cancer.
Over the last 3 years, handful of trials have upset the applecart of standard long course chemoradiation followed by Total mesorectal excision (TME) surgery.
These trials have created an opportunity for organ preservation but increased options for Neoadjuvant therapy does create a conundrum, our opinion in Colorectal Disease is worth a read. Thanks to Devesh Ballal and Tejas Vispute, our alumini.
Despite TNT number of patients who recieve beyond TME procedures remains high, Education and early diagnosis remains key to improve outcomes.”
