Federico Mastroleo: Excited to share our latest research publication titled “A Bibliometric Analysis of the Oligometastatic State over the Last Two Decades: A Shifting Paradigm for Oncology?” in Cancers MDPI journal

In a recent post on LinkedIn, Federico Mastroleo, MD, a Radiation Oncologist at IEO European Institute of Oncology, shared:

“Excited to share our latest research publication titled “A Bibliometric Analysis of the Oligometastatic State over the Last Two Decades: A Shifting Paradigm for Oncology?” in Cancers MDPI journal.
Collaborating with Giulia Marvaso, Giulia Corrao, Mattia Zaffaroni, Maria Giulia Vincini, Paolo Borghetti, Francesco Cuccia, Manuela Federico, Giampaolo Montesi, Antonio Pontoriero, Davide Franceschini, Ciro Franzese, Prof. Barbara Jereczek-Fossa and the AIRO group led by Prof. Marta Scorsetti has been a privilege as we dive into the evolving landscape of the oligometastatic state.

Our study sheds light on the changing trends and insights in oncology, highlighting the impact of this paradigm shift. The concept of the “oligometastatic state” has brought about a transformation in our understanding of cancer’s metastasis and progression. Its management continues to be a vibrant field of research, with ongoing efforts to pioneer new treatment options.
We meticulously gathered 3304 documents from 1995 to 2022, revealing intriguing insights. Among the plethora of keywords utilized by authors, “oligometastases” (19%), “SBRT” (18%), and “radiation therapy” (8%) emerged as the top three, signifying their central importance.

Our analysis highlights a strong connection between radiotherapy and related areas such as immunotherapy and targeted therapies. This intriguing link presents exciting prospects for future combinatorial studies in this context, opening doors to innovative therapeutic approaches.
We hope our bibliometric analysis serves as a guiding beacon for researchers worldwide, illuminating areas that demand heightened attention.”
