Richard Scolyer: I spent time in Canberra to discuss important melanoma and skin cancer issues for all Australians
Richard Scolyer, Co-medical director at the Melanoma Institute Australia, and Cojoint professor at the University of Sydney, shared a post on X/Twitter:
“Last week, Melanoma Institute Australia CEO Matthew Browne, Georgina Long, and I spent time in Canberra meeting various politicians and other key people to discuss important melanoma and skin cancer issues for all Australians. Implemented appropriately, our recommendations will not only improve the health outcomes of Australians but will save the health care budget (and ultimately taxpayers).
• Prevention is better than cure
• Stop glamorisation of tanning
• Position statement on sun safety in sport
• Updating sun smart messaging
• Position statement on targeted screening for melanoma
• ‘Know the skin you’re in’ public messaging
• Invest in medical research.”
