Drew Moghanaki: I’m not surprised by the excellent quality of the manuscript

Drew Moghanaki, Lung Cancer Specialist at UCLA Health Jonsson Cancer Center and VA Greater Los Angeles, posted on X/Twitter:

“A recent publication by Friedes et al. provides a contemporary update on the patterns of failure for patients with stage III NSCLC treated with the PACIFIC regimen at a tertiary academic medical center in Philadelphia. It suggests the local failure rate is less than 20%, which is a departure from the usual 50% that many thoracic surgeons and medical oncologists quote, often persuading patients to consent to a pneumonectomy.

I’m not surprised by the excellent quality of the manuscript. I’ve met Cole and consider him another shooting star from my alma mater at Penn Radiation Oncology Residency.

Just this week, the report was highlighted by The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer in an ILCN story. It’s certainly worth a read if you’re a Radiation Oncologist.

The study findings also shed light on an opportunity to get even better results by offering local consolidation therapy to patients who develop only limited sites of oligo-progressive disease. Friendly reminder: LU-002 didn’t enroll patients with OPD.”
