The Latinas in Medicine Study, an evaluation of the Latina experience in MedEd is out.
Congratulations to authors Gabriella Geiger, Celia Martínez-Aceve, Kelly Meza, Briana Christophers (Ruíz), Priscilla Orellana, Maria Mora Pinzon, Narjust Florez.
What major findings did this study show among Latinas in Medicine:
– 54.5% had negative interactions with patients/families
– 71.8% had negative interactions with others in the medical field
– 76.2% experienced depression More findings
The Latinas in Medicine study also showed that:
– 92.6% of LIM experienced anxiety
– 90.7% of LIM experienced imposter syndrome
– 87.4% of LIM experienced burnout

– 87.4% of LIM experienced burnout
An overwhelming majority of Latinas in this study experienced discrimination, especially most in the earliest phases of training. More support is needed for Latinas and other marginalized groups in medicine.
