Jonas Nilsson: Interesting and balanced discussion on a recent safety signal of CAR-T cells in plasma cell disorders
Jonas Nilsson Chair of Melanoma Discovery at The University of Western Australia and Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, shared an X/Twitter post by Vinay Prasad, Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of California San Francisco, adding:
“Very interesting and balanced discussion on a recent safety signal of CAR-T cells in plasma cell disorders. As usual it comes down to risk-benefit analysis and this ought to have implications for ongoing trials.
Mechanism may take years to unravel. Is there integration of the construct in the myeloid malignancy? Would be surprising but associated with treatment prior to leukopheresis? Does transplantation of the specific infusion product into humanized mice cause malignancy? Lots to do.”
Quoting Vinay prasad‘s post:
“BREAKING: Cilta-cel CAR T linked to Myeloid cancers at high (10/97) rate!
Manni Mohyuddin, Raj Chakraborty, Aaron Goodman and I discuss on X-mas eve implications for patients, and ongoing trials.”
