Record breaking $29 Million Raised for VeloSano Cancer Research Accelerator Fund at Cleveland Clinic
The Cleveland Clinic’s VeloSano Cancer Research Accelerator Fund raised a record-breaking $29 million in 2024.
This achievement was made possible by the collective efforts of the VeloSano community, including participants in the annual Bike to Cure event, Trike and Bike community rides, as well as generous donors who made direct contributions and legacy gifts to the fund.
The announcement of this historic fundraising milestone was made today in a video celebrating the dedication and passion of everyone who contributed to VeloSano’s efforts throughout 2024.
Since its inception in 2014, VeloSano has raised more than $80 million for cancer research at Cleveland Clinic and Cleveland Clinic Children’s.
What started as a weekend cycling event has evolved into a year-round initiative that engages individuals, families, and organizations in the fight against cancer.
“Over the last 30 years, the American Cancer Society reports more than 4 million lives have been saved due to advances in cancer treatment, The support we receive through VeloSano is essential to expanding our work in cancer research. This funding allows us to not only save lives but also move closer to finding a cure for cancer.” – Alex A. Adjei, M.D., Ph.D., Chief of Cleveland Clinic Cancer Institute
A significant portion of the funds raised through VeloSano is awarded via a competitive application process in the form of VeloSano Pilot Grants.
These grants have funded over 240 cancer research projects since 2014, with an additional $85 million raised through extramural grants.
This brings the total impact of VeloSano to more than $165 million. The funding has also played a crucial role in supporting the training of the next generation of cancer researchers, including high school students, college students, and postdoctoral fellows, ensuring that the fight against cancer continues into the future.
The fundraising efforts peak during the VeloSano Bike to Cure weekend every September, a celebration of community engagement and the fight against cancer.
VeloSano is supported by a wide range of partners, including Founding Partners Cleveland Guardians and the Kohl Fund, as well as Supporting Partners such as Adcom, Jones Day, and Lexus, and Contributing Partners like Amgen, AstraZeneca, BeiGene, Genentech, Gilead Oncology, Global Prairie, KeyBank, Michelob Ultra, Novartis, Petitti Garden Centers, Pfizer, The Lerner Foundation, and TransDigm Group.
Looking ahead, the VeloSano Bike to Cure weekend for 2025 is scheduled for September 5-6. Registration details will be available on velosano.org in early 2025.
This record-breaking year underscores the power of community, collaboration, and a shared commitment to conquering cancer.
Thanks to the ongoing support of participants, donors, and partners, VeloSano continues to make a meaningful impact on cancer research, bringing us closer to the day when cancer is no longer a threat to our loved ones.
