Andrew M Wardley: Immediate action is essential to save our dedicated over worked clinicians
Andrew M Wardley, Chair of the Association of Cancer Physicians, recently shared a post by Jonathan Lim, Postdoctoral Clinical Fellow at The Francis Crick Institute, on LinkedIn, adding:
“Immediate action is essential to save our dedicated overworked clinicians. This is a frightening statistic and probably underestimates the real situation. Often those with burnout don’t recognize it or are too scared to admit it.
A survey presented at ESMO 2020 revealed that 38% of participants, spanning 101 countries, reported experiencing burnout, and 66% said they were not able to perform their job. Medscape’s own 2023 Physician Burnout and Depression Report highlighted similar burnout rates, with 53% of US physicians and 52% of oncologists saying they felt burned out, compared with about 42% in 2018, before the pandemic.”
Quoting Jonathan Lim’s post:
“Thanks Medscape Oncology for your coverage of our inaugural ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology Resilience Task Force Special Session at ESMO23.
