Integrative Medicine in Oncology: Redefining the Standard of Care – Society for Integrative Oncology
Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO) shared a post on X:
“Our SIO colleagues and Lorenzo Cohen at MD Anderson Cancer Center recently published this timely editorial in Nature Reviews Cancer: ‘Integrative Medicine in Oncology: Redefining the Standard of Care’. What are the greatest challenges?”
Nicole Stout, Research Assistant professor at West Virginia University, shared this post, adding:
“Put simply the greatest challenge is the medical establishment. We scream for an evidence-base, when we have the evidence and develop the guideline, not that evidence…
Integrative Medicine is hard, it requires interventions from a skilled workforce that may or may not be physicians, it requires bringing supportive interventions alongside medical therapies.
It requires us to get patients to buy in and do things; like engage in therapeutic activities, exercise…lifestyle choices can change but behavior change is hard. not insurmountable.
The evidence is too strong to ignore in many instances.
It requires medical professionals to change, both approach and belief, and that is the challenge.”
