Rejin Kebudi: Optic pathway gliomas in children
Rejin Kebudi, Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology-Oncology at the Istanbul University, shared on LinkedIn:
“I will like to share with you our paper on ‘Optic pathway gliomas in children: Clinical characteristics, treatment, and outcome of 95 patients in a single center over a 31-year period. Can we avoid radiotherapy?.’
Optic pathway gliomas are low grade tumors and we want to avoid radiotherapy especially in young patients, in patients with NF1, and in fact in older children/adolescents and all as much as we can.
With an adapted protocol, following up closely and with patience, and using further lines of systemic treatment when they progress, we can achieve a very good survival and a considerably good EFS even in metastatic patients and in ones with diencephalic syndrome.
Many thanks to Eric Bouffet and Maura Massimino for productive discussions.”
