Tamara Schudel: Delighted to attend the United Nations General Assembly
Tamara Schudel shared on LinkedIn:
“I was delighted to attend the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) last week where I met with senior health and policy leaders from around the world to discuss the pressing need to invest in healthcare and innovation. Now that I’m back from New York City, I wanted to share my reflections on the week.
A highlight was joining the Atlantic Council’s panel discussion on the health economy nexus and how innovation can future-proof health systems and economies. I joined my fellow panellists to discuss the need for sustainable financing for universal health coverage, and the importance of screening and prevention to improve patient outcomes. There was a welcome consensus among attendees about the need to take action today to create a positive cycle where investment in healthcare innovation keeps our populations healthy and productive. I’d like to thank the Atlantic Council for giving Roche the opportunity to sponsor this event, so expert stakeholders could come together to work collectively towards policy solutions.
This spirit of collaboration is essential to create the virtuous cycle of enhanced health, economic growth, and prosperity, and we must come together to overcome challenges which threaten this cycle. One of these challenges is Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the topic of this year’s UNGA High-Level Meeting. Roche is one of the few companies investing in novel classes of antibiotics to overcome multidrug resistance, as well as molecular diagnostics, so it was great to have the opportunity to provide our perspective. While Roche is actively addressing AMR, we see significant challenges in the discovery, development and incentives to invest in new antibiotics. I was pleased to have the chance to speak at the High-Level Meeting and to encourage global policymakers to put the right incentives in place to encourage R&D and ensure a viable market for these crucial new medicines.
I’d like to thank everyone I met at UNGA for such fruitful discussions. At Roche we know we can’t do it alone and stand as a critical partner to those working across the healthcare spectrum to ensure patients can access innovative medicines and care that will drive health system sustainability and growth. In that spirit, I also want to take the opportunity to thank our amazing Roche team for their unwavering commitment to progressing global health for all.”
