“We have a rising mortality rate from Liver and Bile Duct Cancer in Rhode Island for unclear reasons. Liver flukes are a less known risk factor but much more common in Southeast Asia. Part of their life cycle is in snails.

The cancer can take years to develop and is insidious. It is also very difficult to treat although some progress is being made with some targeted therapy. The last image is taken from a nice review from 2016 on the landscape of targeted therapies for Cholangiocarcinoma in Oncotarget.”
