Francisco Esteva: Digital breast tomosynthesis, more effective in breast cancer screening than traditional digital mammography
Francisco Esteva, Chief of the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Lenox Hill Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent paper by Liane Elizabeth Philpotts et al. published in Radiology.

“Digital breast tomosynthesis, or DBT, has shown to be more effective in breast cancer screening than traditional digital mammography. A study analyzing over 272,000 mammograms found that DBT detected more cancers, had fewer recall rates, and identified fewer advanced cancers, indicating earlier detection and fewer false positives.
These results point out the clinical benefits of using DBT for breast cancer screening, making it a superior option for early detection and improved patient outcomes. Is DBT technology ready for prime time?”
