“The Royal College of Radiologists Annual Conference 2023 presenting:-
‘A Single Centre UK Service Evaluation and Comparison of outcomes of radically treated HPV associated Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma before and during the COVID-19 pandemic’
In today’s oncology world, there is a landscape of big clinical trials and real world evidence. We wanted to reflect on our own services and henceforth did this Service Evaluation for Improvement. Mentored by Sherif Raouf supervised by Pandora Rudd Kieran P. we did not identify differences in the management or short-term outcomes of patients with OPSCC treated at Barts Cancer Centre before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, indicating that the service was maintained despite challenges. Time from referral to MDT, MDT to Surgery were unknown but could have influenced treatment modality. Inclusion of a larger number of patients from other centres with longer follow up times is planned to confirm whether these findings are consistent in other populations at multiple NHS sites.
