“I am truly humbled and honored to receive the Dicey Scroggins Distinguished Advocate Award from the International Gynecologic Cancer Society (IGCS). This award holds a special place in my heart, as it represents a recognition of years of dedication my team and I have given to the cancer pandemic.

The Distinguished Advocate Award named after my late friend and co-advocate, Dicey, who survived ovarian cancer and went on to become a powerful patient advocate for ending cancer disparities. We lost her in 2022 at the age of 72.

Her story is as inspiring as I am by this award, to keep addressing the inequities in cancer.

International Gynecologic Cancer Society also honors the incredible people — patients, families, healthcare workers, and all my incredible partners(local and international) — who have walked (and are walking) this journey with me.

I equally congratulate Annie Ellis, my co awardee, who as a survivor, is the real champion.

Indeed there is still much to be done, and I remain committed, to fight for equity in cancer care, for early detection, and for better outcomes for all.
