Dégi László Csaba: Do cancer policies in your country address survivorship psychosocial care?

Dégi László Csaba, President-Elect of European Cancer Organization, stated on LinkedIn:

“Our global team analysed 237 national cancer control plans from 173 countries to see how well they address psychosocial care for cancer survivors. The results show room for improvement!

Key findings:
Only 41% of plans mentioned psycho-oncology or survivorship care at all
Just 24% had clear goals for survivorship psychosocial care like counseling, vocational support, managing anxiety, etc. Most focused only on palliative care. High-income countries were more likely to address survivorship psychosocial care than lower-income ones.  Common goals were building provider capacity, rehabilitation models, and utilizing community services. With 50 million cancer survivors worldwide and growing, this review highlights a need to prioritize better survivorship psychosocial care in cancer policy plans globally.
