Partha Basu, Head of the Early Detection, Prevention and Infections Branch at the International Agency for Research on Cancer/World Health Organization, shared on X:
“Health system capacity assessment is an integral part of planning for introduction of a new health policy/program. Protocols and tools for such capacity assessment are well standardised for maternal and child health care and other programs, but not yet for cancer prevention and early detection.
Within the framework of European Commission supported CBIG-Screen project Dr. Mensah, Dr. Mosquera and others have developed a protocol for capacity assessment to support countries introduce HPV detection based screening and also piloted the same in three European countries.
The protocol will not only be a great asset for all countries planning to introduce HPV screening, but also can be customised to other interventions in cancer control.
