Rachel Shelton: Our new piece is out in Frontiers on making the connection between health equity and sustainability in Implementation Science.
Rachel Shelton, Associate Professor at Columbia University in the City of New York, shared the following insight on X/Twitter:
“Had an idea for a paper in my head & knew that Juliet Iwelunmor-Ezepue and Maji Hailemariam would be essential collaborators to tell the story and write this paper! Big thanks to this star team! Our new piece is out in Frontiers on making the connection between health equity and sustainability in Implementation Science.
We make the case for why a health equity framing is essential to sustainability and argue that an enhanced focus on sustainability in Implementation Science is critical in order to maximize the long-term health benefits and broad societal impacts of EBIs equitably for all populations and settings.
We make recommendations for enhancing sustainability from a health equity mindset:
1) Planning early for sustainability with key partners;
2) Being accountable by tracking progress towards sustainability and equity;
3) Focusing on equity and engagement throughout all phases & processes.
