Cancer Genetics Workshop 2024: Equipping Specialists for the Future – NCIS
National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) shared on LinkedIn:
“Cancer Genetics Workshop 2024: Equipping Specialists for the Future.
NCIS hosted an enriching full-day Cancer Genetics workshop in July, bringing together 20 dedicated participants from Singapore and regional countries including Vietnam, Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Hong Kong. The attendees, comprising medical oncologists, breast surgeons, and genetic counsellors, engaged in a day of immersive learning and collaboration.
Given the rising global demand for genetic counselling and testing services, this workshop aimed to empower cancer specialists with the skills and knowledge to deliver high quality cancer genetics counselling and testing services to their patients.
The event commenced with didactic lectures by Programme Director Prof Lee Soo Chin, Programme Co-Director Dr Samuel Ow, and Senior Cancer Genetics Counsellor Ong Pei Yi. Participants were then divided into small groups for interactive hands-on practical sessions.
These lively discussions allowed attendees to delve into key topics such as selecting the appropriate genetic tests, aiding treatment decisions, and interpreting germline versus tumour genetic test results, with a special focus on BRCA1/2 and homologous recombination repair genes.
We concluded the workshop with valuable feedback gathered, which will significantly shape our future sessions. Our heartfelt thanks to all attendees for their enthusiastic participation and positive feedback!”
