Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu: Honored to have contributed to the completion of Global Breast Cancer Framework By WHO
Zainab Shinkafi-Bagudu shared on LinkedIn:
“Breast cancer is the most common cancer globally and the top cause of cancer deaths among women, especially in low- and middle-income countries. In Nigeria, 32,278 new cases were recorded in 2022 (IARC), with over 16,000 deaths.
The Global Breast Cancer Initiative by WHO aims to cut breast cancer mortality by 2.5% annually, potentially saving 2.5 million lives over 20 years. To do so, a GBCI Framework was developed. It is a core technical package that focuses on three strategies: health promotion for early detection, timely diagnosis, and comprehensive management. This framework connects policymakers, stakeholders, healthcare providers, program managers, and civil society to evidence-based approaches, strengthening health systems and reducing health inequities for women.
I am honored to have contributed to the completion of this framework under the finance and governance section.
