Scott Kopetz, Department Chair of Colorectal Medical Oncology at UT MD Anderson, shared on LinkedIn:
“UT MD Anderson has established a new Department of Colorectal Medical Oncology, and I am honored to serve as its inaugural Chair.
Why a dedicated department, and why now?
Colorectal cancer is increasingly diagnosed in adults under 50. At the same time, advances in screening, molecular profiling, and circulating tumor DNA are changing how we detect and treat it. A disease changing this fast deserves its own strategy, its own leadership, and a program built around it.

In the months ahead, our focus will be to:
- Build a disease-specific strategy spanning research and clinical care
- Recruit and develop the next generation of colorectal cancer clinicians and investigators
- Expand multidisciplinary care with our colleagues in the Colorectal Center
We will make this transition thoughtfully and in phases, working closely with Dr. N. Arvind Dasari, the new chair of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology, and Dr. Christopher R. Flowers, MD, Division Head for Cancer Medicine.
That collaboration remains a core strength, and we intend to keep it.
More to come.”
