Felicia Flowitt, Director of Oncology Policy (Pan-Tumour) at AstraZeneca, shared on LinkedIn:
“Cancer care has been transformed in ways few could have predicted a decade ago, and I spend a lot of my time trying visualize and bring about the cancer care system of 10 or more years from now.
Ahead of this year’s ESMO, our AstraZeneca oncology leaders look back at how cancer care has changed. Yes to everything they said and also to less invasive, less life-altering treatments that return people as completely as possible to the lives they had before their diagnosis.
Worth a watch.”
Here’s what the speakers shared in AstraZeneca’s video.
Ahead of ESMO 2026, our Oncology leaders reflect on 10 years of cancer innovation and what’s to come.
What seemed impossible in cancer care 10 years ago that’s now a reality?
Susan Galbraith: “10 years ago, we were seeing the initial promising data for both immunotherapies and a new wave of precision-targeted therapies. Since then, the field has evolved, with this promise delivering improved survival outcomes in several different cancer types. A mature data from earlier lines demonstrating improved long-term outcomes.”
What’s your prediction for cancer care 10 years from now?
David Fredrickson: “Cancer care 10 years from now will be detected earlier. Early interception is where we have the greatest opportunity to be able to ensure the best possible outcome for patients, and I’m excited about what I see on the horizon.”
Susan Galbraith: “I hope to see new modalities such as antibody-drug conjugates, radioconjugates, T-cell engagers, and cell therapies also delivering improved outcomes by moving into the earliest stages of cancer.”
