In its mid December election update, the American Society of Clinical Oncology reported the selection of six physicians to join the Society’s Board of Directors and Nominating Committee, with terms scheduled to begin in early June of the following year. The announcement was issued alongside ASCO’s update that Deb Schrag, MD, MPH, FASCO, had been elected to serve as ASCO President for the two thousand twenty seven to two thousand twenty eight term.

New members elected to the ASCO Board of Directors

ASCO’s Board of Directors includes elected oncology leaders who represent different practice settings and professional perspectives. The newly elected Board members, whose terms are set to begin in June of the upcoming cycle, include Piyush Srivastava, MD, FASCO, elected to the designated community oncologist seat, and C. S. Pramesh, MBBS, MS, FRCS, elected to the designated international oncologist seat.

The Board also includes newly elected representation in radiation oncology, with Karyn A. Goodman, MD, MS, FASTRO, FACR, FASCO, elected to the designated radiation oncologist seat.  In addition, W. Kimryn Rathmell, MD, PhD, FASCO, was elected to an undesignated Board seat.

New members elected to the ASCO Nominating Committee

ASCO also announced the election of new members to its Nominating Committee, the group responsible for developing candidate slates for future elected Society roles. The newly elected Nominating Committee members include Neeraj Agarwal, MD, FASCO, and Ana I. Velázquez Mañana, MD, MSc, FASCO, with terms beginning in June of the incoming governance year.

Why these roles matter for ASCO and the oncology community

Board and Nominating Committee elections play a central role in shaping ASCO’s leadership pipeline and governance priorities. The Board provides strategic oversight across the Society’s mission areas, while the Nominating Committee influences future leadership composition by identifying and advancing candidates for elected positions. ASCO’s election updates emphasize continuity in governance alongside broad representation across oncology disciplines, practice environments, and international engagement.
