Today, AstraZeneca and our partners at Daiichi Sankyo announced positive high-level results from a Phase III DESTINY-Lung04 trial evaluating our HER2-directed antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) as a 1st-line treatment for patients with unresectable, locally advanced, or metastatic HER2-mutant non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
The trial showed a statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvement in progression-free survival (PFS) compared with the current global standard of care and will now continue to evaluate overall survival and other secondary endpoints.
HER2-mutant NSCLC is rare and aggressive, affecting an estimated 2-4% of NSCLC patients and often occurring in younger people. Options in the 1st-line setting have historically been limited, and many patients still progress on current treatment. Already the first and only approved ADC for 2nd-line treatment of HER2-mutant metastatic NSCLC, these results support its potential to move earlier in the treatment journey – delaying disease progression when early intervention matters most.
This milestone reflects the continued progress of our oncology pipeline and our shared work with Daiichi Sankyo to get effective treatments to patients sooner.”
