The NIH Academic-Industrial Partnerships for Translation of Technologies for Diagnosis and Treatment (R01) supports multidisciplinary collaborations that move promising scientific and engineering technologies toward practical use in research and healthcare.

For cancer-focused applications, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is a participating institute, with interests spanning cancer detection, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment monitoring, precision diagnostics, liquid biopsy, artificial intelligence, immunotherapy technologies, biosensors, and next-generation therapeutics. Applicants may request up to $499,000 in direct costs per year for up to five years. The next new-application deadline is October 5, 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applications must establish an academic-industrial partnership involving at least one academic organization and at least one industrial organization.
  • Eligible applicants include public and private institutions of higher education.
  • Nonprofit organizations may apply.
  • Foreign/non-U.S. organizations are eligible to apply.
  • Non-U.S. components of U.S. organizations and foreign components are allowed.
  • Multiple PDs/PIs are permitted.
  • Applicant organizations may submit more than one scientifically distinct application.
