
CRI Irvington Postdoctoral Fellowship to Promote Racial Diversity
The CRI Irvington Postdoctoral Fellowship to Promote Racial Diversity supports early-career scientists from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds who seek training in fundamental immunology and cancer immunology. The program provides three years of funding and mentorship for postdoctoral fellows working at leading research centers and universities globally. In addition to scientific development, the program offers enhanced career support and networking opportunities, helping to build a more diverse and inclusive community of immuno-oncology researchers.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must identify as Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islander
- Applicants from socioeconomically disadvantaged populations or other convincingly underrepresented groups may also apply
- Must have a doctoral degree by the date of award activation
- Must be working in fundamental immunology or cancer immunology
- Must conduct research under a sponsor who holds a formal appointment as assistant professor or higher at a non-profit institution (US or abroad)
- Cannot have more than 5 years of relevant postdoctoral experience (excluding MD residency)
- Should not have spent more than 3 years in the sponsor’s lab by the fellowship start date (exceptions rare)
- Only one applicant per sponsor per round; each sponsor may support a maximum of three CRI fellows at any time
- No citizenship restrictions
- Resubmissions allowed if revised to reflect progress
Funding Details
- Year 1: 74,000 USD stipend
- Year 2: 76,000 USD stipend
- Year 3: 78,000 USD stipend
- Annual 5,000 USD institutional allowance for supplies, travel, insurance, or childcare
- Additional support for travel to CRI’s annual International Cancer Immunotherapy Conference and Bioinformatics Bootcamp
- No deductions for overhead permitted
Application Deadlines
- March 1 and September 1 (or the following Monday if on a weekend)
- Applications due by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time
- Award decisions are typically issued within 10–12 weeks
- Fellowships must begin within 4–12 months after deadline, on the first of the month
