Promising Scientist Grant

The Promising Scientist Grant from Kids Beating Cancer offers continued support to recipients of the Emerging Scientist Grant who are ready to take the next step in their research journey. This 25,000 USD award funds short-term, self-contained research projects that fall within a larger scientific investigation in pediatric cancer.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must:

  • Have successfully completed the Emerging Scientist Grant within the past two years

  • Be a graduate student (master’s, PhD, or MD) or a postdoctoral researcher (within two years of degree)

  • Work under the direct supervision of a U.S.-based mentor specializing in pediatric cancer research

  • Submit a letter of support from their mentor

  • Be affiliated with a U.S.-based nonprofit or academic institution

  • Submit original, unpublished work or significantly updated abstracts from major conferences (e.g., ASCO, ASH, ASPHO, AACR)

Funding at a glance:

  • 25,000 USD total

  • Project length: 3–6 months

  • At least 80% of funds must support the trainee’s direct involvement (e.g., supplies, labor, equipment)

  • Indirect costs, PR, memberships, travel, or admin fees are not allowed

Research focus:

The proposed research must be relevant to pediatric cancer. The project should be discrete, capable of being completed in a few months, and clearly fit into a broader research plan. Projects might include mechanistic studies, drug screening, animal models, or sequencing analysis of resistant cancer subtypes.

Key deadlines:

  • Application Deadline: October 1, 2025

  • Award Notification: November 1, 2025

  • Final Report Due: October 31, 2026
