
LUNGevity Mid-Career “Bridge to Breathe” Award
The LUNGevity Foundation is now accepting Letters of Intent for its 2025 Mid-Career “Bridge to Breathe” Research Award, offering $150,000 over two years to support associate-level physician-scientists whose lung cancer clinical research programs require bridge funding while reapplying for major federal or equivalent grants.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must:

Hold the rank of associate professor with tenure (or equivalent)

Demonstrate prior success with NIH R01 (or equivalent) funding

Show strong publication history in lung cancer research

Have submitted a major federal grant application (e.g., NIH R01) within the last 6 months that was not funded

Not hold any concurrent multi-year funding (e.g., NIH, DOD, ACS, institutional startup/retention funds)
Funding at a glance:

$150,000 total ($75,000/year for 2 years)

Research must be clinical and focused on lung cancer

Funded projects must meet annual milestones

Progress and financial reporting is required
Research focus:
This award is intended to sustain clinically relevant lung cancer research at a critical time when other funding may have lapsed. The project must clearly demonstrate clinical impact and feasibility for federal-level resubmission.
