Emerging Scientist Grant

The Emerging Scientist Grant from Kids Beating Cancer supports graduate students and postdoctoral researchers who are committed to shaping the future of pediatric cancer research. This grant provides 10,000 USD to fund a short-term project aimed at answering a specific research question related to childhood cancers. Projects must be conducted under the supervision of a qualified mentor in the U.S.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must:

  • Be a graduate student (master’s, PhD, or medical degree) or a postdoctoral researcher within 2 years of receiving their degree

  • Be enrolled in an accredited U.S. institution with nonprofit or academic status

  • Work with a mentor who specializes in pediatric cancer research (mentor must be U.S.-based)

  • Submit original, unpublished work or significantly updated abstracts

  • Provide a letter of support from their mentor

Funding at a glance:

  • 10,000 USD total

  • Project duration: 1–3 months

  • At least 80% of funds must directly support the trainee’s research involvement

  • Indirect costs, travel, memberships, PR, and admin expenses are not allowed

Research focus:

Projects must address a discrete, self-contained research question that fits within a broader pediatric cancer investigation. Research types can range from novel therapeutic testing in cell lines or mouse models to molecular pathway exploration in resistant cancers.

  • Award Notification: July 1, 2025

  • Project Report Due: October 31, 2025
