Curebound Discovery Grants 2025: $250K for High-Risk, High-Reward Cancer Research

Curebound is now accepting Letters of Intent for the 2025 Discovery Grants, designed to fund early-stage, high-risk, high-reward collaborative cancer research across all cancer types. This grant supports transformative ideas and new areas of inquiry that show promise for follow-on funding and measurable patient impact.

Who is eligible?

Applicants must:

  • Be independent researchers with an MD, PhD, or equivalent

  • Hold a faculty appointment at one of six San Diego-based institutions:

    • UC San Diego (including Moores Cancer Center and UCSD Health)

    • Salk Institute

    • Sanford Burnham Prebys

    • Rady Children’s Hospital

    • La Jolla Institute for Immunology

    • Scripps Research

  • Collaborate with at least one Partner PI from a different eligible institution

  • Additional co-PIs may be added upon full proposal invitation

Funding at a glance:

  • Up to 250,000 USD for 1 year (direct + indirect costs)

  • Indirect costs are capped at 30% of the total budget or 42.85% of direct costs

  • Funds may cover PI salary (NIH cap), research personnel, supplies, and reagents

  • Travel, tuition, and non-research infrastructure expenses are not allowed

Research focus:

Projects should explore emerging targets, biomarkers, diagnostics, therapeutic strategies, or screening tools. Priority is given to concepts aligned with Curebound’s strategic research pillars:

  1. Prevention + Diagnostic Tools

  2. Cancer Equities

  3. Novel Therapeutics + Platforms

  4. Immunotherapies + Personalized Vaccines

  5. Pediatric Cancers

Key deadlines:

  • Letter of Intent Due: May 5, 2025 (5 PM PDT)

  • Invitation to Apply: June 17, 2025

  • Full Proposal Due: July 29, 2025 (5 PM PDT)

  • Award Notification: December 2025

  • Project Start Date: January 1, 2026
