
Curebound Discovery Grants 2025: $250K for High-Risk, High-Reward Cancer Research
Curebound is now accepting Letters of Intent for the 2025 Discovery Grants, designed to fund early-stage, high-risk, high-reward collaborative cancer research across all cancer types. This grant supports transformative ideas and new areas of inquiry that show promise for follow-on funding and measurable patient impact.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must:

Be independent researchers with an MD, PhD, or equivalent
-
Hold a faculty appointment at one of six San Diego-based institutions:

UC San Diego (including Moores Cancer Center and UCSD Health)
-
Salk Institute
-
Sanford Burnham Prebys
-
Rady Children’s Hospital
-
La Jolla Institute for Immunology
-
Scripps Research
-
-
Collaborate with at least one Partner PI from a different eligible institution
-
Additional co-PIs may be added upon full proposal invitation
Funding at a glance:
-
Up to 250,000 USD for 1 year (direct + indirect costs)
-
Indirect costs are capped at 30% of the total budget or 42.85% of direct costs
-
Funds may cover PI salary (NIH cap), research personnel, supplies, and reagents
-
Travel, tuition, and non-research infrastructure expenses are not allowed
Research focus:
Projects should explore emerging targets, biomarkers, diagnostics, therapeutic strategies, or screening tools. Priority is given to concepts aligned with Curebound’s strategic research pillars:
