
2026/2027 Clinical Research Radiation Oncology Fellowship
BC Cancer – Victoria is pleased to offer a one-year funded Clinical Research Radiation Oncology Fellowship beginning July 1, 2026. This program is affiliated with the University of British Columbia (UBC) and provides a balanced opportunity for clinical training and academic development in an advanced cancer care setting.
Fellowship Focus Areas:
The fellowship can be tailored to meet the clinical and academic interests of the candidate. Focus areas include:
- Site-specific oncology (e.g., prostate, gynecologic, CNS, thoracic)
- Technique-based specialization such as:
- Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy (SABR/SBRT for brain and body)
- Brachytherapy
Research opportunities will be customized to align with the fellow’s interests and may include:
- Technical innovations in radiotherapy
- Provincial population-based outcomes research using BC’s extensive data resources
- Independent or supervised clinical research projects with protected time
Training Environment:
BC Cancer – Victoria is a medium-sized academic centre serving Vancouver Island and the Southern Gulf Islands. Facilities include:
- 6 Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, including:
- High-resolution MLC
- 6DOF couch capabilities
- 1 Flexitron HDR brachytherapy afterloader
- 2 CT simulators, 1 CT-PET, and a superficial treatment unit
- Established prostate and gynecologic brachytherapy programs
- Expanding SABR/SRS capabilities across nearly all anatomic sites
- Annual treatment volume: ~3,000 patients
- Staff includes 23 radiation oncologists, 2 general practitioners in oncology, and 2 nurse practitioners
Location:
Victoria, British Columbia, is renowned for its temperate year-round climate and natural beauty. Located on Vancouver Island, it offers access to outdoor activities such as hiking, sailing, skiing, and ocean exploration, providing a high quality of life.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must:
- Hold or be eligible to obtain Fellowship certification in Radiation Oncology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or an equivalent international qualification
- Be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC)
- Have completed residency within the last 3 years (preferred)
- Demonstrate prior research experience in basic or clinical radiation oncology
- Meet English proficiency requirements if training was not conducted in English (minimum IELTS Academic score of 7 in all components)
