Clinical Research Breast Cancer Fellowship

The Clinical Research Fellowship in Breast Cancer Radiation Oncology at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, McMaster University, is a 1–2 year program designed to offer advanced training in the clinical management of breast cancer and applied research in radiation oncology. Fellows will gain hands-on experience in a multidisciplinary academic setting and participate in innovative research related to clinical trials, health services, and emerging technologies in breast cancer radiotherapy.

Eligibility Criteria:

Field of Study:
This fellowship focuses on the comprehensive treatment of breast cancer, with opportunities to develop expertise in:

  • Multidisciplinary care in breast oncology

  • Radiation treatment planning and delivery

  • Clinical trials and protocol development

  • Evaluation of new technologies in radiation oncology

  • Health services and outcomes research

Research Focus:
Fellows will receive formal training and mentorship in research methodology. Areas of research may include:

  • Clinical trial design and implementation

  • Translational research in radiation oncology

  • Health services research and technology assessment

  • Participation in cooperative group trials through the Ontario Clinical Oncology Group (OCOG)

Institutional Setting:
The Juravinski Cancer Centre delivers comprehensive radiation oncology services to a large population across Central South West Ontario, managing approximately 5,000 new cancer patients annually. The centre is a national leader in clinical trial participation and is affiliated with several major cooperative research networks.

Academic Pathways:

1-Year Fellowship:
Fellows may enroll in the Graduate Diploma in Clinical Epidemiology (GDCE), part of McMaster’s renowned Health Research Methodology (HRM) graduate programs.

Fellows may pursue a Master’s degree through McMaster University’s Faculty of Health Sciences in one of the following areas:

  • Health Research Methodology

  • Health Policy

  • Health Science Education

  • Medical Sciences

Clinician Investigator Program (CIP)

Citizenship:
Canadian citizens and permanent residents will be given priority. International applicants with completed Radiation Oncology residency training who are eligible for an educational license in Ontario, work permit, and visa are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must include one of the following statements:

  • “Yes, I am a citizen or permanent resident of Canada”

  • “No, I am not a citizen or permanent resident of Canada”

Fellowship Details:

  • Duration: 1–2 years

  • Start Date: July 1, 2026

  • Location: Juravinski Cancer Centre, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada

Application Requirements:
All components must be submitted in full. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

  1. Complete the Fellowship Application
  2. Eligibility for a CPSO (College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario) License
  3. Curriculum Vitae, including academic positions, publications, certifications, awards, and professional memberships
  4. Three reference letters, including one from your Residency Program Director
  5. Cover letter outlining your personal learning goals and preliminary ideas for a clinical/research project
  6. Medical school transcripts
  7. Application Deadline: July 15, 2025
