
AGA-Beyond Celiac Pilot Research Award in Celiac Disease
The AGA Research Foundation, in partnership with Beyond Celiac, invites applications for the 2025 Pilot Research Award in Celiac Disease. This $40,000 award provides one year of funding to support innovative, investigator-driven research focused on celiac disease and gluten-related disorders.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must:

Hold an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree

Have a full-time faculty or equivalent appointment at a North American institution (U.S., Canada, or Mexico)

Be an AGA member at the time of application

Conduct research in any area relevant to digestive disorders (basic, translational, or clinical)
Early-career investigators are required to:

Have completed training (MDs: ≤7 years post-fellowship; PhDs: ≤7 years post-degree as of April 2026)

Work with a mentor who will oversee research progress

Submit a recommendation letter from their division chief or department chair
Established investigators must explain how the proposed research represents a new direction from their previous work.
Funding at a glance:

40,000 USD for one year

May support PI and research staff salaries, lab supplies, equipment, and biostatistics support

Mentor salary, indirect costs, and travel expenses are not allowed
Research focus:
Projects must explore the pathophysiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, or patient outcomes related to celiac disease or gluten-related disorders. Proposals should demonstrate how pilot data will position the applicant for future major funding (e.g., NIH).
