
Advanced Radiation Oncology Fellowship
Advanced Radiation Oncology Fellowship is a one-year clinical training opportunity commencing July 1, 2026, offered by CancerCare Manitoba (CCMB) in partnership with the Department of Radiology, Section of Radiation Oncology at the University of Manitoba.
This program provides advanced clinical training in precision radiation therapy, with a strong emphasis on Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS). Fellows will be exposed to cutting-edge radiation techniques for treating:

Lung, spine, liver, adrenal, and prostate cancers (SBRT)

Brain metastases and CNS tumors (SRS/SRT)
Clinical Setting & Facilities:
Training takes place at CCMB’s state-of-the-art outpatient and cancer research facility located in Winnipeg, within the University of Manitoba’s Faculty of Health Sciences. The facility includes:

7 Varian linear accelerators
-
Gamma Knife Perfexion SRS
-
High-dose-rate and prostate brachytherapy suites
-
2 CT simulators and an orthovoltage unit
-
IMRT, IGRT, and RapidArc delivery platforms

Full integration of ARIA and electronic medical records
The department manages approximately 3,500 consultations per year from Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario, serving a catchment of over 1.3 million people. Clinical care is delivered within multidisciplinary disease site groups, ensuring a broad exposure to a variety of oncologic conditions.
Fellowship Structure:

60% Clinical Work: Training in disease site groups including Thoracic, Genitourinary, Gastrointestinal, Head & Neck, Breast, and Gynecologic Oncology

40% Research and Program Development: Fellows are expected to engage in research activities aligned with their interests and institutional priorities.

Previous fellows have successfully published peer-reviewed research and contributed to program development in advanced radiation techniques like SBRT and SRT.
Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must meet the licensing criteria of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba (CPSM) for an Academic Post Certification Trainee license. Additional requirements:

Completion of Radiation Oncology residency by July 2026

Preferred: Residency completed within the last 3 years

International Medical Graduates (IMGs):

Minimum 5 years of Radiation Oncology training

IELTS Academic: Score of at least 7.0 in all four components and overall band score of 7.5 (if applicable)

Compensation:
Fellows will hold a PGY-6 equivalent position and receive an annual stipend based on PARIM guidelines.
