An industry-academic fellowship providing thoracic surgeons a unique 9–12 month on-site practicum at AstraZeneca (Gaithersburg, MD or Waltham, MA) to train in clinical trial design, protocol development, endpoint selection, and data interpretation in thoracic oncology. The research focus includes antibody-drug conjugates, immunotherapy, and cell therapy in early-stage NSCLC and esophageal cancer. Fellows complete a clinical research project with publication and presentation opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be actively engaged in an ACGME-approved or equivalent foreign training program in general surgery or thoracic surgery, with general thoracic surgery as primary specialty
- Must hold an academic or hospital appointment (resident, fellow, or new faculty member)
- Open to candidates worldwide — no citizenship requirements; however, visa status must permit completion of the 12-month on-site fellowship
- Fluency in English required
- Must not be a U.S. government employee/subcontractor or clinical fellow from a U.S. government laboratory (NIH, CDC, FDA, etc.)
Funding Details:
- $100,000 USD for 12 months
- A portion of funds may be used to cover airfare, lodging, and registration to attend the AATS Annual Meeting and International Thoracic Surgical Oncology Summit
- Note: Award payments to international individuals may be subject to up to 30% federal tax withholding
