ASCO Long-term International Fellowship (LIFe)

A Conquer Cancer Foundation fellowship fostering global oncology training. Enables a young oncologist from a low- or middle-income country to spend one year at a leading cancer center in the U.S. or Canada, acquiring specialized research and clinical skills. The goal is to build cancer research capacity and leadership in the fellow’s home country upon return.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Early-career oncologist (MD, MBBS or equivalent) from a low- or middle-income country (as defined by World Bank).
  • Must be an ASCO member in good standing.
  • Have completed oncology training and hold a position in their home country to which they will return. A mentor at the host institution is required (usually senior ASCO member).
  • Proficiency in English and commitment to improving cancer care in home country. Prior ASCO International
  • Development Award (IDEA) recipients often pursue LIFe next.

Funding Details:

  • Amount/Duration: $115,000 USD for a 12-month fellowship abroad. This covers the fellow’s stipend, health insurance, research expenses, and travel.
  • Training Focus: Can be clinical research, cancer prevention, or specific oncology subspecialty training. Fellows gain hands-on experience and often participate in research projects.
  • Fellows also receive complimentary ASCO Annual Meeting registration and are honored at the Grants & Awards Ceremony.

Deadline:

  • January 29, 2026 – Application deadline (annual call). Selection results announced by April 2026; fellowship term typically starts later in 2026.
