The International Innovation Grant (IIG) provides funding for novel, innovative projects that can significantly improve cancer control in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The goal is to reduce cancer burden in local communities through solutions that can also be transferable to other LMIC settings. The IIG uses a two-step process (Letter of Intent followed by invited full proposal) and all applications are reviewed and scored by an independent Grants Selection Committee.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Grantee Organization must be a registered not-for-profit organization (charitable purpose) or a government agency that will administer the grant funds solely for the project.
- Grantee Organization must be located in a World Bank–classified Low-Income, Lower-Middle Income, or Upper-Middle Income country.
- Grantee Organization must have been operating for at least one full year, have acceptable management structures/processes, and be solvent (with or without IIG support).
- Grantee Organization should have experience delivering activities with tangible outcomes.
- Principal Investigator must be an ASCO member (any membership category) or have submitted an ASCO membership application with the grant application.
‘Principal Investigator must be a citizen or permanent resident of a World Bank–classified Low-Income, Lower-Middle. - Income, or Upper-Middle Income country and currently residing in that country.
- Principal Investigator must be affiliated with the applicant (grantee) organization.
- For 2026, dedicated funding is available in areas listed in the current RFPs, including a Cancer Prevention track.
Funding Details:
- Award: Up to USD 20,000 total for 1 year.
- Grant is awarded and paid directly to a nonprofit organization or governmental agency (Grantee Organization) in an LMIC.
- Number of grants per cycle is not predetermined; funding is based on merit and fit with donor-specified criteria when applicable.
- Two-step application: Letter of Intent (LOI) followed by invited full proposal after LOI review.
- All application materials must be in English and submitted through the Application Portal (no paper, email, or fax submissions).
- Supporter: Prevent Cancer Foundation (commitments reflected as of December 10, 2025).
