A flagship national funding program by the Cancer Research Society (CRS) supporting Canada’s most promising cancer research projects. This peer-reviewed competition provides two-year operating grants to advance fundamental knowledge in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. By accelerating high-impact studies across all cancer types, these grants aim to fuel innovative discoveries and bolster Canada’s research excellence.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Principal Investigator must hold an academic or research position at a Canadian institution and be eligible to hold grant funds.
- Co-applicants must also be based at Canadian institutions. International collaborators are permitted, but the PI must be in Canada.
- Projects may address any area of cancer research (basic, translational, clinical, or population health). Proposals are evaluated on scientific merit via rigorous peer review.
Funding Details:
- Grant Amount: CA$140,000 total per grant (CA$70,000 per year for 2 years). New in this cycle: the award amount has been increased from previous CA$120K level to CA$140K.
- Project Duration: 24 months. Continuation to second year is contingent on satisfactory progress reporting. Indirect costs are not covered.
- Use of Funds: Supports direct research expenses, personnel, and equipment/materials for the proposed project. (Each award is made possible through CRS donor and partner contributions.)
