The Physician Scientist Fellow Award by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC) supports early-stage physicians pursuing careers in blood cancer research. The award provides up to 85,000 CAD per year for two years to cover salary costs for clinical researchers working at the basic, preclinical, or clinical level. This program aims to build Canadian research capacity by fostering physician-scientists dedicated to advancing hematologic malignancy research and clinical translation.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must hold an MD.

  • Must have completed or be in the final year of fellowship in hematology, oncology, hematopathology, pathology, or a related field.

  • Must be enrolled in a Master’s, PhD, or postdoctoral program at the time of application.

  • Must propose research directly relevant to blood cancer.

  • Must have a qualified sponsor who provides mentorship, research environment, and funding for research costs.

  • The sponsor must have current peer-reviewed national grants to support the proposed work.

  • Applicants must demonstrate a trajectory toward an independent career in hematology/oncology focused on blood cancer.

  • Research time must constitute the majority of the applicant’s effort.

  • Must include a Community (Patient) Partnership Plan and DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) considerations in the proposal.

Funding Details:

  • Amount: Up to 85,000 CAD per year (salary only).

  • Duration: 2 years (maximum total 170,000 CAD).

  • Award Start Date: November 2026.

  • Eligible Costs: Salary for the grantee.

  • Non-eligible Costs: Equipment, travel, tuition, or research expenses (these must be supported by the sponsor’s grants).

  • Letter of Intent (LOI) Deadline: December 4, 2025 (4:00 PM EST).

  • Full Application Invitation: December 2025.

  • Full Application Deadline: February 18, 2026 (4:00 PM EST).
